Holiday Refuse Information

Longmeadow Holiday Refuse Collection Information

The Longmeadow Department of Public Works would like to remind residents that trash and recycling pickup will be one day late this year for anyone on Thursday and Friday pickup for the weeks of December 22nd and December 29th 2014.

Again this year, residents will be allowed one extra bag or one extra barrel (not to exceed forty pounds each) for the two week period from Friday, December 26th through Friday, January 9th.  All other trash and recycling rules will still apply. Please recycle as much as you can!

The DPW will begin the annual collection of Christmas trees for same period beginning Friday, December 26th and ending Friday, January 9th.  Please place trees on the tree belt or on top of snowbanks in front of your home and do not leave them in the road.  All trees must be clear of wires and decorations.  Please do not put wreaths to the curb if they have wire frames, these wreaths should be disposed of as regular trash or have the frames removed.

During the winter months, if snow is expected during the evening, please do not place your trash and recycling to the curb until 6 am the day of  your normal collection.  While you are sleeping, the DPW can most effectively salt and plow streets with as few hindrances as possible.  Trash cans get knocked over or buried making a mess that you will have to clean.  Having the street clear of obstructions allows the drivers to push snow back to the gutter line and make it easier for residents to get to work, bring children to school, etc.  Please help us help you!

Town by laws require that walks be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of a storm ending.  Residents are requested to clear snow form around fire hydrants to help the Fire Department in the event of an emergency. Seconds and minutes in the  early stages of a fire can be critical.

Residents are also reminded that there is no overnight parking on the streets and to look for parking bans which will be announced on the Towns website, on LCTV and local television stations.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please call the DPW office at 567-3400.

Thank you and enjoy the holiday season!
