Tennis Court and Athletic Field Playability Update: 4/13/15

13 April 2015

Athletic field conditions are adequate for practices. The DPW is currently working placing lines, goals and bases on playing fields.
Please use discretion, as not all the fields are 100% dry.

Early exposure to surfaces, especially infield areas for baseball and softball, will result in damage. The DPW is currently working on high school fields and will then move to youth lacrosse, soccer, baseball/softball.

No self-guided, volunteer maintenance or recreational activities are allowed unless approved by the DPW; this is to prevent unintended, expensive damage to playing surfaces.

Regarding the Bliss Clay Courts: Conditioning will begin after the frost has thawed and the clay has dried sufficiently.

Updates on field conditions will be reported as they become available.

The Town of Longmeadow thanks everyone for their understanding and patience.

Pothole Season Driving Tips

  • Safety is the biggest concern, if you hit a pothole and it damages your car, move out of the flow of traffic before calling for assistance.
  • Maintain the proper air pressure in your tires.
  • Slow down if you see a pothole in front of you. The faster you hit it, the greater the impact and potential for damage. Avoid braking directly over a pothole. It can actually cause more damage.
  • If you’re able to avoid a pothole by changing lanes, check all sides prior to the lane change.
  • If you have to drive over a pothole, firmly grip the steering wheel to avoid losing control.
  • A puddle in the middle of a road could be a pothole in disguise. Avoid driving through it if possible.
  • When driving at night, choose well-lit routes so you can see the surface in front of you.
  • Reoccurring loss of tire air pressure or steering wheel vibration may signal vehicle damage due to potholes.
  • If you encounter a pothole in Longmeadow, please call 413-567-3400 or report on the web using:
