Water Main Work

Current/Upcoming Water Main Replacements:

  • Crest Ave
  • Chandler Ave

Work will include a new water main and replacement of services from the new main to property lines. During construction, excavation areas may be patched or covered with steel plates at night.  All disturbances to tree belts and private property will be restored to pre-existing condition to the fullest extent possible.  In an effort to reduce damages to lawn irrigation systems, please mark irrigation lines and sprinkler heads located at the edge of the road within the tree belt.  Flags to mark irrigation lines and heads are available at the Department of Public Works.  Should there be any damage to the marked irrigation, the Town’s contractor will make the necessary repairs.  The contractor will make every effort to avoid your irrigation systems.  Damage to unmarked irrigation systems will not be repaired by the Town.

Throughout the project, the DPW will make every effort to notify residents of any scheduled temporary water shutoffs.  If an emergency water shutoff occurs, the Contractor will repair the problem as quickly as possible.  This work may cause some inconvenience to residents but is necessary to improve the town water supply system.

In an effort to facilitate weekly refuse collection, residents are asked to have their refuse and recycling curbside by 7:00 a.m., especially during the time period construction work is taking place on the street.

Residents who need access to homes between construction hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. should expect some delays.  Nevertheless, the contractor will make every effort maintain access to residences.

During construction, there will be various colored painted lines on the street and on private property. State laws require anyone who digs to notify utility companies before starting any underground project.  The painted lines are the utility companies’ method of marking underground lines so they are not damaged during construction.

To report any problems or concerns, please contact the Engineering Department at 567-3400.  The Town of Longmeadow appreciates residents’ patience and support during this important project.
