KEEP FAMILY SOCIETY announces the launching of its new website, www.keepfamilysociety.org and its international campaign to locate Keep family members for the purpose of updating family information. The Keep Family Society was organized in the early 1980s through the efforts of Oscar Keep III, a noted attorney from Florida. The Societys membership is made up of the descendants of John Keep, who appeared in Long Meadow, Massachusetts, in the mid-1600s, and related Keep families. Published genealogies of the family include John Keep of Longmeadow and His Descendants, 1899, compiled by Frank Best; and John Keep of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, 1994, compiled by Margo Keep. Both volumes are still in print. A substantial family newsletter, The Keepsake, is published three times a year and the outreach includes some 800 families. Its content is historical in nature as well as containing current family news. Genealogy books, newsletter, and membership information can be found on the website, as well as forms that can be used to update family information. It is the hope of the Society that the dissemination of this information and that of the website will encourage the vast numbers of Keeps around the world to respond to update requests as well as to encourage membership. As a second generation non-Longmeadow resident (Longmeadite??) I have grown up listening to older family members speak highly of your town. I have visited Longmeadow several times during my life, most recently in February, 2003 for my father's internment in the Longmeadow Cemetary. Today, I sent a couple of photos of my forebears, (Samuel Colton Booth, and his grandson, James David Booth) and will send more old Longmeadow pix when time permits. Great website! To my knowledge, I have never been in Longmeadow, MA, but my family roots are deeply buried there. My mother was a Cooley, a descendant some 360 years removed from her ancestor, Benjamin Cooley. Both she and her father were born in New Haven, Conn., but there were many family members still living around the Longmeadow, MA area. Now that I have found this wonderful web site, my foundest desire is to make a "homecoming" trip to Longmeadow! Delray Beach, FL 11/28/04 |

Thank you whoever maintains this, its a nice reminder of home. Tuscaloosa, Alabama 11/22/04 |

Hello Longmeadow! I found your site through a google search on the internet. I was looking up information on the author Thyra Ferre Bjorn and found that she resides/resided in Longmeadow. I am hoping that someone can help me find any information on her at all. She wrote Papa's Daughter, Papa's Wife and other books. I first read Papa's Daughter when I was a 12 year old girl and I fell in love with the book. I read other books by Ms. Bjorn and started my long journey of reading. Ms. Bjorn introduced me to my vast love of books and reading. I would love to be able to send a letter to her thanking her for this. If anyone at all could help me with this, please email me at: krazygirl1_98@yahoo.com with the subject line: Thyra Ferre Bjorn info. I thank you for your help and I loved touring your website. The town of Longmeadow looks absolutely beautiful and seeing as I'm in eastern Canada, I may just be able to visit one day. Here's hoping! Cheers all! Ottawa, Ontario-Canada 11/18/04 |

John Keep was my 8th great grandfather. I would like to find more information about the massacre of the Keep family. Strangely enough, the Keeps on my mother's side were killed by Indians as the Klingensmith family on my father's was killed by Indians (the Senecas) in Westmoreland Co. PA in 1781. What Indian tribe killed the Keeps? Also, I heard they were guarded by Capt. Nixon. Who was he and what Militia did he represent? I would appreciate address of information, or information directly. I am Robert W. Blatt at WRBLATT@AOL.COM I was from Michigan and now reside in Florida. Clearwater, FL 12/23/02 |

I was very pleased to find our site, and am awash in nostalgia having grown up in Longmeadow (Center School, WMS, LHS 1981) where my parents were also active in town. I'll be bringing my husband's family at Christmas to see "where I come from" and appreciate the temperature given in degrees centigrade as well as in farenheit! Thanks again, I especially enjoyed the photo album. Paris, France 12/2/02 |

I lived in Longmeadow for 11 years. Was a reserve special police officer there for six years. A point of History. There was an old law that required Longmeadow to graze cattle being driven from Connecticut throught to Massachusetts on the town green and to open the town well (also on the green) to water those cattle. I wonder if its still on he books!! Be an interesting sight - right!! Spring Hill, Florida 6/17/02 |

Am interested in Longmeadow as our
family came in part from Longmeadow, ie, there is one home there
that bears the name of one ancestor from the early 1700's. That
was interesting to see when we were side tracked one Sunday due
to an accident on the highway. Branford, CT 10/16/00 |

Since I live in Longmeadow I know what it is about. But I still like to get my school schedule and lunch menu on this web site. The school I go to is Glenbrook Middle and I enjoy my teacher Mr. Robbins. I think he is cool. I just wanted to say that this is one of the best towns i've ever been to and I enjoy it. Longmeadow, MA 9/1/98 |

Your site has given me the greatest pleasure. We left Longmeadow in August 1945 and none of us wanted to but my father had been promoted so.... I think, of all the places I've lived, Longmeadow was unquestionably the nicest. I think of it often and wonder how extensive the changes are -- the woods behind our house(Greenacre Ave); the sandhill we used for sledding, behind Wenonah Rd; the House on the Green where we children at Center School could eat lunch if our mothers were away for the day; the May Morning Breakfast, etc., etc.-- sorry, I could go on and on. You're so fortunate to live there! Melrose, MA 5/28/98 |

Nice to see Longmeadow is available by computer. I was raised in Longmeadow, and graduated high school in the class of 1978. Wondering if they're having a reunion? Pembroke Pines, Florida 5/3/98 Editor's Note: See LHS Alumni Directory for reunion information. |

I very much appreciate your efforts in maintaining this Longmeadow page. I lived in Longmeadow forty years ago, and I still think of it as a wonderful place. The neighbors I knew at the time were very friendly, and when I drove through town about 11 years ago, I saw that Longmeadow still has beauty and charm. Keep up the good work. I haven't completely reviewed this site but am eager to do so. I am interested in Longmeadow, MA since I found it listed as birthplace for my Great Grandfather Horace Wood on his Civil War pension file. Horace is now residing in Arlington National Cemetery, having died of disease during the conflict. I am looking at the site to get a sense of the place he was born in in 1817, and to pick up bits of historical data. Thank you for putting the site on the internet, I hope it serves you well.
