HAZMAT Response

Longmeadow Firefighters respond to various incidents involving hazardous materials. Every Firefighter is trained to the operational level as defined by SARA Title III. Two of our Firefighters are trained to the Technician level and are active members of the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services District 4 Hazardous Materials Response Team. Each year our Firefighters train in mitigation, identification / recognition, and various techniques for handling hazardous materials. Most commonly we respond to gas/oil spills, suspicious packages, and pool chemical issues. When incidents of a large scale are encountered, the District 4 team is called to assist.
