NEWS FOR LONGMEADOW VETERANS

The purpose of the letter is to introduce myself as the Town of Longmeadow’s new Veterans’ Service Officer.  I have recently been appointed by the Town of Longmeadow and will be available 9 – 3 PM, Monday through Friday at the Longmeadow Adult Center which is located in Greenwood Center at 231 Maple Road, Longmeadow, MA 01106.  I am also available for home visits if need be.

As a first step I would like to meet with you and discuss all deserved benefits.Massachusettsstate law states that all veterans entitled to benefits shall receive support directly from the communities with which they reside.  My job is to help you understand and receive all Massachusetts State benefits.

The definition of a “Veteran”:  For Massachusetts’ benefits, you are a “veteran” if you received a discharge under honorable conditions and served for at least 90 days of regular active duty, one day of which was during wartime, or you served for 180 days during peacetime, and you received a discharge under honorable conditions.  This does not include active duty for training days in the Guard or Reserve.

Did you know?

  • Mass. Gen. Law Chapter 115 can provide you with short-term financial assistance, including rent or mortgage payments until you can find a job or other benefits.
  • The Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services offers a needs-based program of financial and medical assistance for veterans and their dependents under M.G.L. Chapter 115.  These benefits are for those with a discharge under honorable conditions.
  • There is also a $2000 annual annuity available for certain blind, paraplegic, or 100% service-connected disabled veterans, as well as to the spouse and parents of those deceased veterans whose deaths were service-connected.
  • The Massachusetts Welcome Home Bonus is available for widows, spouses and service members who participated in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan:

There is much more that is to your benefit. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop in or call.  I look forward to with meeting with you!

Very truly yours,

 Jason Dieni
