Open Space and Recreation Plan

Longmeadow Open Space and Recreation Plan

The purpose of the open space and recreation plan is to establish a seven-year plan of action for the protection of open spaces, to preserve wildlife and natural resources, and to provide recreational opportunities for all residents. The plan also identifies strategies to provide a range of recreational opportunities for residents of all ages at well maintained and managed parks, recreational facilities, and conservation areas. The current Open Space and Recreation Plan (2012-2019) is undergoing an update.

The Longmeadow Open Space and Recreation Committee is seeking public comment to identify town goals for open space and recreation over the next seven years. A public visioning session is being held on Wednesday, July 29 via Zoom at 7 pm.

Residents were asked to complete a questionnaire prior to the meeting to identify open spaces and recreational activities important to them.

This planning effort is being undertaken for the development of an Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP). Public comment is critically important to developing a plan that meets the needs of Longmeadow’s residents. The Longmeadow Open Space and Recreation Committee is tasked with updating the Town’s 2012 Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) which guides Town decisions about open space and recreation management and growth over the next seven years.

The updated OSRP is being developed with assistance from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission with funding provided by a District Local Technical Assistance Grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
