Annual dog licenses are due no later than March 31st of each year. Per MGL Chapter 140, Section 137: The owner or keeper of a dog over the age of 6 months shall obtain a license for the dog. A current rabies certificate is always required to license as well as proof of spaying/neutering upon licensing for the first time. For convenience purposes the Annual Census form that was mailed at the end of January 2021 includes licensing information on the backside. In order to keep town records accurate and up to date, please contact the Town Clerk at 413-565-4103 if you no longer own a dog that was licensed the previous year. Licenses can be obtained by using the online bill pay system via Online Bill Pay; through the mail or the drop box to the right of the front door at Town Hall by downloading the Dog License Application from www.longmeadow.org or in person by visiting the satellite office located at the Community House, 735 Longmeadow Street on Wednesdays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm or Fridays 9:00 am – noon. Longmeadow licenses approximately 2,000 dogs annually and due to the large volume of licenses that are received through the census, it does take time to process them all; staff will be working on them as quickly as possible, but please be aware that it may take some time to get them processed and mailed out. All licenses will be processed and mailed out by March 31st. The fee to license a spayed/neutered dog is $10.00 and the fee to license a female/male dog is $20.00.
